Husbands and Wives

Separate, but equal lives

of husbands and wives;

drifting along and apart

though joined at the heart.

Silence and stillness,

touches now thrill-less;

though comfort remains,

passion slowly drains.

They pass in silence,

the familiar dance.

Lives crossing for moments,

the exchanging of comments;

alone together,

for reasons unknown now,

it’s so hard to say how

they came to this place

of molasses pace,

without any spark,

lying parallel in the dark.
